I am supposed to be traveling from Manila to Phuket in July.  The price I've been quoted for tickets, going through Bangkok, seems a little high.  What would a normal price for that be?    Is there an easier way to travel from Bangkok to Phuket (by train or something)?

Yes, I know this isn't about India.  But, I'm starting from India, so that counts for something, right?

Have you tried flights through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Penang? Less of a detour from Manila. (than going through Bangkok, ie)

i have a conference in manila, then another in phuket following.    Oh!  Just figured out what you meant...  will look into that.  

I could only find a site that said there was no direct train... and the bus is 13 hours.  Train + bus might be a really good option. I'll check it out.

(checked it:  it's 18 hours!!  egads... but cheap!)

They fly Manila to Bangkok.
