As a passenger, I dont really like this new rule, but makes better commercial sense for Railways...


Tatkal booking opens at  8AM on five days before of actual date of journey.For example in respect of train leaving on 6th,Tatkal Booking will Commence at 8AM on 1st.

Instead of full coach being presently nominated as Tatkal Coach, there will be Tatkal quota in each train in 2A, 3A, AC Chair Car and sleeper classes as under:-

                2A - 4 berths per coach
                3A - 6 berths per coach
                AC Chair Car - 6 seats per coach and
                SL - 10% of the accommodation on one coach whichever is less

Dear Digital,
In 7002, there are TWO 3AC Coaches and Tatkal Quota is 24 Berths; and for SL, the Quota is 108 Berths!!!!!!!

But I wanted to bring to the kind of all the Members that wherever a need is being felt more berths for Tatkal Quota are being earmarked than originally proposed in the Rules (***indicated by Mr.Sudheer). Hence  the Tatkal Quotas for Hussain Sagar and Bangalore Express have been put-up.

Roughly the Taktal ticket is a quota held back from the main reservation quota (which can be booked upto 60 days ahead) these tickets (under the new ruling) go on sale only five days before departure!

Under the Taktal rules you have to ourchase the ticket for the entire rout of the train, so say get on a Mumbai Trivandrum train and want to get off in Margao (Goa) you will still be asked to pay for the entire Mumbai-Trivandrum route plus a hefty booking fee. this makes the Taktal option really for emergencies only, as it can be rather expensive!!
