Hey Everyone,
How do you minimize jet lag going to India from the east coast?  We obviously want to make the most of our two week trip, but it seems that people spend a couple of days just getting over the travel.

Any suggestions?  What works for you?

Thanks.

You do not say where you are from. If you are from anywhere in Europe, then the feeling isn't all that much. It is only staying awake for 4-5 hours extra one day and then your biological clock adjusts. If its from further west (N/S Americas) then the lag is much longer, so might take a day or two to adjust. But I am sure it will be OK. Just relax and enjoy your flights and get good rest in the first 1 or 2 days, try to stay awake a bit longer if neccessary to get your biological clock set to the local time. And enjoy your trip!

Hiya,

All I would do is set my watch to India time when I get on the plane.

and then if my watch says 'Bedtime' I sleep and if it says 'DayTime' I stay awake.

Try to get onto Indian time as soon as possible ... It works for me where ever I go.

in addition to the above about getting onto local time as soon as possible (don't even think about succumbing to that desire for a nap!), don't drink alcohol on the plane, eat lightly and drink plenty of water.

some people recommend starting like this a few days before, but I reckon that's a whole level of discipline i'm not ready for.
just is.

That's what I do, too. Plenty of water on the plane (its easy to become dehydrated after spending 16 or more hours in planes and airports), no alcohol (which also dehydrates) and resist the urge to sleep all day once you arrive.

Over the years I've used two techniques to avoid getting jet lag on the way to India from Canada.  One of the best is taking a stop over on the way if you can manage it.  Went so far as to use ATW tickets a couple of times with many stops along the way.  Next best is a really good pair of ear plugs so you can get some sleep during the flight.

Thanks everyone!  These are great ideas.  I let ya know which of these worked (or didn't work) for us.
