New member here.  Hello and kudos to all.  I am still scrathing the surface of all your interesting stories.
I have a question for all who have some input.

I have found myself with the oppurtunity to travel to India early this summer.  (I'll post more questions as the time arises)  I have some experience travelling, but never in this region of the world.
Being a medical professional (RN), I thought it would give me great insight to volunteer (with an NGO or other Aid group) before I began my travels in India.  I consider the volunteering as part of the adventure, and would prefer that my efforts were productive.  I do not want to be used by some group to make a profit, but do want to make a positive impact.
Does anyone know of legitimate medically oriented groups?  Urban or rural?
I have found some via the internet, but would prefer the input of those that have actually been there.

I also have some scholarly interest in the medical practices of this ancient civilization.  Any advice on points of interest concerning ancient Indian healing practices would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Welcome, cameron.  You might look into the following organization:

I am slightly acquainted with someone who's doing a Masters in Public Health in New York, who worked for them this past summer and will try to find out some more info.
