Ingredients ::
  • 5 tbsp oil
  • 2 red onions sliced
  • 20 curry leaves
  • 4 green chillies
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2.5 cm ginger, peeled and finely sliced
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  • 400g crab, cleaned and quartered
  • 300ml coconut milk
  • 1tsp lemon juice
  • salt

  • Serves 4
Description ::
Fresh crab cooked in it's shell. Messy to eat, but very tasty!

Heat the oil in a large frying pan and fry the onions until soft. Add the curry leaves, green chillies, garlic and ginger and cook for 5 minutes over a medium heat
Add the tumeric and chilli powder to the pan. Pour in 225ml water. Bring to the boil, then lower the heat and simmer for 10 minutes stirring occasionally.
Add the crab pieces and continue cooking over a medium heat for 10 minutes.
Stir in the coconut milk and allow the curry to heat through gently for 2 -3 minutes. Add salt to taste. Remove the pan from the heat and set aside for a few minutes. Pour in the fresh lemon juice and serve immediately.

Wow! This sounds really easy, I have never tried cooking crab, preferred eating it at a restaurant. But, will try it out at least once. Thanks Kirsty

If you lightly saute the crabs the shell will turn bright orange red.
