A company called Cumsome which started its operation by opening multicuisine food parlours at Old Delhi & Nizamuddin railway stations have been expanding rapidly by opening branches at other important raiway stations. Now you can dial their number from ur cellphone they will deliver thalis both vegetarian & nonvegetarian right at your seat at selected stations & plan to expand this facility to other stations too.

Belive it or not but something like this has existed for Bengali Mach Bhat (Fish Curry & Rice), Dim bhat (Egg Curry & Rice)and Mangsho Bhat (Mutton Curry & Rice) for a good few years at Chennai Central station though nothing like the flash thing that you talk about in Delhi. Memory fails me on the name of the place, but just outside Chennai station there is Bengali place(Hotel if you want to call it that) that you can walk to order the food and tell them your train number/time and coach number and they will deliver hot meals to you in time for your train. They are particularly aimed at Bengali people travelling to Kolkata on trains like Coromandel Express, Howrah Mail etc. I am only guessing that they do phone orders these days.

Conveniences of take aways etc are catching up really fast now in India  B) .

Wow! This is great. Will they do it on the Mumbai Goa train as well? If anyone has any info please post. I would love to try it out on my way to Goa in December.

I saw Mumbai on their list but Mumbai has more than one station.
Sugarnspice I have a better suggestion. Go to Mahesh Lunch home and have a great Seafood lunch/dinner. Whole pomfret spiced & crisp fried, stuffed squids, prawns in coconut gravy.

Thanks Jyoti, went there when I was in India last Christmas. This year is very rushed can only make a couple of weeks. The thali idea sounded great. Well, maybe next time around!
