The traffic is insane -- dealing with innumerable number of maruti cars, cyclists, pedestrians and animals on the road is enough to drive one bananas.

I LOVE driving in India (I live in North Goa)...  It's great fun.  I've just had one tiny accident in 3 years (a grazed my toe...), so not doing too bad, but driving is excellent, I guess I'm one of the crazy ones now.  I have to say when I get back to England it's a little weird...  I find English drivers a little too posesive when it comes to space! :

If I have to take an emissions test, I hope I haven't recently been eating cauliflower.

(Love the stuff, but it seems to cause certain noxious gasses to be manufactured in my gut...)

I've always enjoyed owning a car (actually spent most of my life not having one), and the sense of freedom it gives.

I enjoy driving too, but find it quite hard work. I think it is going to be ten times as much work here, due to having to concentrate on every direction at once!

Its scary --- but I am really looking forward to getting my Indian licence and then a car.

actually, a colleague of mine (expat from Europe) who now lives in Delhi (works at our India office) to my big surprise is driving himself in Delhi and wherever... this is the guy who clearly can request a personal driver (most of his Indian subordinates used to have own company paid drivers, until he came along )
BUT he drives probably the biggest car you see on the road (a huge jeep) so, according to the Indian informal traffic code, he has got the right of way before almost anyone (may be except for governmental cars, I haven't figured it out yet)
