my astrologer advised me to get a ring with an emerald stone...
I am in Delhi until Thursday night, staying in South Delhi, working in Gurgaon
is there an area/jewellery stores nearby where I can get a good selection of rings with silver settings? thanks

If you can manage to reach Chandni Chowk you will find an entire lane full of silver smiths. I hope you can judge the quality of emerald. one good thing about going to a reputed shop is that you are sure of the quality.

It depends what kind of emerald.
If you want the western-engagement-ring faceted-cut kind of stone, then no, this would be very hard to do in silver, because the fine claws of the setting would not be strong enough.
But if you have the smooth-cut 'cabachon' stone, then this can be done in silver just like any other stone, with a 'bezel' which is pressed down all around the stone holding it there for ever and ever.
I suppose a manufacturing jeweller who is always working in gold may not have the metal in stock to make your design.
Have you got the stone? I'd buy it from a government shop (it may not be the cheapest place, but they really shouldn't rip you off...) and take it to a guy sitting in a tiny street workshop......
