Reports Of Chikungunya Fever - Kerala

hello all,

NDTV reported 62 cases of Chikungunya fever in Allepey  (Kerala). Its a mosquito borne illness typically with fever and severe joint pains. Fortunately not life threatening most of the time.
Just a heads up for travellers heading there.
Do take precautions against mosquitoes.

And there has been an outbreak of dengue fever in Delhi.  This is another mosquito-borne disease that sometimes flares up after the monsoon.  See this link:

Just come back from the doctor's about my vaccinations and they printed off some up to date National Health Service information for me, I've reproduced the most recent updates FYI. Bring out those DEET sprays and mossie nets!

Update: 18th October
Between Feb and 10th October 2006, the World Health Organisation has reported 151 districts in 8 states in India affected by Chikungunya fever. There are 1.25 million suspected cases, over 750,000 from Maharashtra and over 250,000 in Karnataka. 125 cases in Delhi and 6 deaths there.

Update: 9th October
3000 cases of Dengue fever reported throughout India. Delhi is the worst affected and surrounding states are on alert.
