It struck me as I was browsing today that I don't really know where everyone's actually been in this favourite country of ours. Priya, for example. I know she likes Jaipur, I know she's been to Calcutta but ... where else? Cyberhippie - has he really been EVERYWHERE?

So I thought it might be useful if posters could list where they've been. Then if people want advice on a particular destination they might know who could help.

Good idea? Bad idea? I'll start the ball rolling and see how it goes.

Starting North and heading South it goes like this:

Jammu & Kashmir: Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Most of the Eastern bit of the Leh Valley, Most of the Nubra Valley, Manali - Leh Road.

Himachal Pradesh: Shimla, Manali, Dharamsala / McLeod Ganj / Bhagsu / Dharamkot, Spiti Valley, Naggar, Rewalsar, up and down the Kullu Valley a bit.

Sikkim: Gangtok, Pelling, Tashiding, Yuksom.

West Bengal: Calcutta/Kolkata, Darjeeling.

Delhi.

Uttar Pradesh: Agra.

Maharashtra: Mumbai/Bombay, Aurangabad, Ajanta, Ellora, one or two beaches.

Goa: Arambol. Been to most of the towns and beaches in the North but have only ever stayed in Arambol.

Andhra Pradesh: Hyderabad.

Karnataka: Gokarna, Hampi.

Kerala: Thiruvananthapuram/Trivandrum, The Backwaters, Allepey/Allapuzha, Kollam/Quilon, Cochin/Kochi.

Jabalpur is on my list Jyoti, though we never made it to the marble rocks it was Christmas and someone cracked a bottle of old monk..................the rest as they say "is history"

Good idea Doc....

Well thanks to you Doc, and many others here and the other forums, I've JUST RETURNED yesterday from my 1st trip to India so I feel as if I've joined an exclusive club. Still a bit shell shocked by some of it and sorry our paths didn't cross Doc so I could shout you that Forsters but for what it's worth, here is my list...

Tamil Nadu - Chennai

West Bengal - Kolkata, Bagdogra, Siliguri, Darjeeling, Kurseong

Assam - Guwahati

Delhi

Karnataka - Bangalore

Andra Pradesh - Puttaparthi

Afraid that's it for a novice but somehow I reckon another trip is on the cards.

Both the Doc and Cyber have Agra on their lists, KK! Looks like you and BigDave are the only ones who went to Delhi, but never made it to Agra   .

I have been to India twice and both time haven't made it to Agra. I've been to many of the standards and some of them twice.  Now the list of where I meant to go would be huge!  Oh well, next time.
