Seriously thinking of a trip to valley of flowers from 30th Sept onwards.
1. Is it advisable to visit the valley in this season? How cold will it be at Joshimath and the valley (any advice for clothings)

2. I have a two year old kid with me. Is it advisable to go with a kid of this age, (off course we will hire mules for kid and mom for the trek route)or am I being misadventurous?

3. I do not want to do the trip from Rishikesh and Joshimath in one go.Please suggest any scenic overnight stop in between Rishikesh and Joshimath.

Desperately seeking your advice.

1. Look the best time to visit valley of flowers is August as the flowers bloom the most during the monsoon. This place as such is very beautiful & worth a visit even now. It won't be too cold at this moment, do carry woolens. Chances of rain is almost nil now.
2. Wouldn't venture to comment here, you know your kid the best. Facilities at many places are quite basic. Do carry provisions for your kid, and be careful of the water that you drink.
3. I suggest Rishikesh - Chamba - Rudraprayag - Joshimath(visit Auli)

Thankyou Jyotida.

Regarding kids my simple concern is carrying them up on mules.
Do people go with kids there?

I'll second that Rudraprayag's one of my fave's, if you stay at Joshimath take a share jeep to the hot springs at Tapovan.......wonderful views of Nanda Devi from there.    KK

I visited Valley of Flowers and Hemkund in the month of August a few years ago. Flowers are available till middle of September, but it is a matter of luck as the colour of the valley changes regularly. Rudraparyag or Joshimath/Auli will be a better place to stay. On the way to Valley of flowers night halt is available in Ghangaria which itself is a nice place. Try to go to Hemkund to see the beautiful lake eventhough it is a steep climb of 6 km from Ghangaria.
