Wonder if any of you lads and lassies can help this 'ol girl out?

I'm looking for a one way air ticket from Capetown to Melbourne, for about the 22nd May 2007 and the prices on the Internet are astronimical.  The buyer is under 26 and has a student card.

Is there still such a thing as a cheap country in Europe to buy an air ticket like this?  Years back it used to be Athens - and people from all over the middle east would take a ferry or a flight over to greece to purchase onbound tickets...but hey! that was too many years ago for me to remember now!

Maybe you could let me know  :D

It looks like there are no direct flights from Capetown which I guess is what puts the price up. Jo'burg is the nearest that goes direct by the looks of it.

I can get one way flights for about £650 Capetown to Melbourne and £482 from Jo'berg to Melbourne which aint bad. So it might be wise to look at overland travel between Capetown and Jo'burg

Try this site www.statravel.za which is specifically aimed for student travel

don't know if this will help, but you might like to consider flying to some other mainland australian city and then picking up an internal flight if that works out cheaper.

seems that internal flights are frequent, cheap and reliable these days.

just a thought.
just is.
