Based on posts from the previous site, I created the train guide. I believe, I had everyone's permission to collate their posts into 1 single PDF.
The canonical location for the document is here
http://www.goneindia...ADSPAGE111.html (Scroll down for the link to the 2Mb file)
I have no plans to change the Title of the document.
The PDF file has some of the most informative posts on Indian Railways by different posters of the previous and current site.
Please use this thread for all posts regarding the guide. If the mods were to make this thread a 'pinned' local to the Rail travel forum, I'd be happy.
The Train Guide is a pretty comprehensive source of Information on all things Indian Railways. Please read it before posting any questions or doubts.

DD, maybe you could consider including this railway map: http://indiawiki.panipuri.net/wiki/Image:R...hematic_map.png

Done. That's added to the PDF.
A few changes have been made to the PDF and mailed to Cyberhippie. In a few days, you'll find the latest version 1.01 at his site with a May 2006 timestamp.
Please, please do not take printouts,as this PDF will undergo constant revision. Better to take printouts of relevant pages just before you travel.
As usual, please post errors on this thread, I'll correct them with acknowledgements.

For finding trains in between two stations you can also visit here
Problem is that this link works well after 10pm and up to 8 am. When the load on IR server increases this link refuses to work. But at times it has proved useful for me particularly when I have been looking for unreserves short distance local trains. Please remember that all the locals are not listed here.

Another tip for using CJT(Circular Journey Ticket)
With a bit of tact you can break your journey into two legs. Since you cannot come to originating station(or any station)twice, what you can do is to terminate one of your inbetween legs at a nearby station and start again at your convenient time from that station. for example
New delhi - Puri - Raipur - Pipiriya - Indore - Agra Cantt - Madgaon - Hubli - Hassan - New delhi
Here After completing Orissa , pipiriya and Indore in December I return to Agra and from there on my own to New Delhi(180km). Again in last week of January I start from agra to Goa and Karnataka.

I also did the same way in the year 2000. The route was
Vizag-Vijawabada-Hospet(Humpy)-Madgaon-Mombai-Kolkata-Vizag.
It is cheap and convenient
