Sorry, I couldn't find a bus section!

I'm now at the stage of arranging travel in Kerala.  Is it safe/easy to travel on the state buses for a lone woman traveller?

I know this might sound really dumb and naive, but do the buses stop on long journeys for toilet breaks?

Thanks and cheers for the info in advance.

The buses do stop for toilet breaks but sometimes I found it hard to find a toilet.  Men would just go at the side of the road, but often someone would bring me to a place that I could use.  I was travelling with someone, but my female friend would often take the bus alone and felt very safe.  Depending where you are travelling, you may be a bit of a curiousity and generate a lot of looks, but a smile will go a log way!

The two Australian girls I was traveling with were able to routinely convince drivers to stop in the middle of the night so they could go pee somewhere, that's always an option you could try.
