Went to Infantry Rd Police station yesterday to sort out my registration as I will be staying more than 180 days next month, all went very smoothly thanks to my aide who has a lot of 'important' contacts within the force (and I daresay one or two pockets were lined).I will write and up to date list of current list requirements later. Hopefully going to collect the permit this afternoon!
Anyway, when I was there I met the guy who is responsible for UK passport holders and visas,he advised me that when my Business visa next expires I can go back to the police station and renew it again for another 12 months. Obviously there will be some documention required from my company etc but I thought that very handy to know and no need to skip out of the country!
His words were yes come here and renew your visa - It's much cheaper than flying back to the UK.

Get that man's cell number, landline number, name and address, grandmother's contact details ...everything, and put them in a bank security box!

technically, it is only tourist visas that are non-renewable/extendable. But having a contact is like gold! Otherwise the guy you see next time (whatever the law) may insist on telling you something very different!
You did brilliantly well: apparently the FRROs in the major cities are taking weeks to issue permits. They told me mine would be two weeks: then Mrs N worked magic behind the scenes....

I can confirm that Jen has just got that permit without any probs at all.
The other great thing is that he thinks he may be able to help Shanthi sort her visa issues out right here in Bangalore too, ok sure others have said this before but at least this chap actually works in the right place!
Fingers crossed everyone!

Smoked for 25 years but now not smoked since 13th Jan. Am I now a non smoker, a smoker who doesn't smoke or an ex smoker? Do I have to even have a title, can I not just be a 'me'? Has not smoking made me crazy?, probably!

Does any know how easy/hard it is to renew a 5 year visa in country. Do you have to do it at your local police station or will any do? What does it involve? How much does it cost? (excluding bribes), how much are you inspected to bribe if it's required? I've managed to live in India without a single bribe up until now, and I really dislike the idea and feel I would be compounding the issue if I gave one...
Any help would be great... Got a couple years left before I do it... Also I tend to go back to England at least once a year so would it be easier getting it renewed in the UK... ?
Thanks in advance

Your situation is very different from mine. For me, the transition from Tourist to Entry Visa in London (not at all helped by a bullshitting agent who strung us along for weeks and achieved nothing) had become an impossible saga, whereas in London, getting the X visa was a five minute job.
I suspect that renewal (for both of us) here wouldn't be nearly so much hassle as conversion.
But if you are used to dealing with HCI London, and they are used to dealing with you, then, if I was you I'd go there.

That would be brilliant!
What about people who have functioning business in India? I think there are no issues on getting their biz visa's extended.
Most people are having problems while they are in Goa.. all papers from FRRO's office have to go to Delhi for process. It consumes time..
