Do get pissed off when hotel prices are cranked just because I look like a mark though. There is really nowhere it would be safe for an unaccompanied woman to just pitch a tent by the side of a boulevard or any municipal camping spaces available for visitor use so shelter is not optional, it is a necessity.
"If there is no two tier pricing overseas and everyone paid the same price, then where would Indians encounter discrimination for them to complain?"
Of course there is discrimination overseas, especially in the matter of housing. It's not so much about two tier as out and out lying, ie: "No we have no vacancies"-tanslation, "we don't want any visible minorities in here". This is of course illegal and there are legal chanels to challenge this. It just doesn't seem there is much illegal in India.
