Per Singapore Airlines' flight, economy class is allowed:
One piece of in-cabin baggage
Total weight not to exceed 7 kg (15 lb) per piece
Maximum size not to exceed 115 cm (45 in) - sum of the height, width, and depth of the bag
This means that I am allowed 15 pounds in the same size bag that American Airlines allows me to carry 40 pounds in. (I am having a stop over so I don't have the same requirements for both flights). That's just silly! How serious are they about this? How strictly do they enforce it? Has anyone flown Singapore Airlines and had problems if they carried more in their carry on? I'm not talking 20 pounds more, but 10 or so would be really nice. Otherwise, I'm carrying on an empty bag...
Also, they say they allow one woman's handbag. Is my laptop going to count as this, or will that be the 15 pounds? Other airlines clarify that a laptop can be a personal item, Singapore Airlines doesn't...
Thanks, guys! Leaving in 3 days!

Hi Jyoti
I have made many flights on Sing Airlines and have never had my carry-on stuff weighed. The dimensions are of greater concern since the overhead lockers have to hold all the luggage.
You probably wouldn't have too much trouble unless the carry-on was incredibly heavy.
As far as laptops and handbags are concerned, they can be stowed under the seat so that shouldn't be a problem. Of course, carry-on is a big issue at the moment and it might be worth checking with the airline.
Enjoy your flight - the food, music etc is great - and the flight attendants in their sarongs sometimes make you feel that you are in heaven!
