Last year I went to Darjeeling and Sikkim during October, there where too many Indian tourists! Also the weather was bit wet. Eventually I made it to Yuksom, that was terrific.  But Sandakpur trek was too busy and still cloudy   I am going again to India and am wonder where I should go this year?
Right now I'm thinking to flying right to Nepal and then Pokara, because Pokara has been wonderful in the past, and has great Himalayan views.  I think there is no such place in India.
Then again I've never been to Almora, or nandi Devi, I wonder how it would compare?  I would like to go to kullu again, but I'm afraid it will be too many middle class Indian tourists in the area. I thinking the weather will be clearer further north, like Chamba.
What's your suggestion? I am a weather and nature nut too.

Pokhra/Nepal vs Almora etc...

I went to Pokhra in the 80s. Beautiful.

I went to Almora/Kausani last in 2005. Beautiful too. Dont know about Nanda Devi, but the biosphere area is one place I want to go to sometime.

If you havent been to Almora, I would suggest go to Mukhteshwar/Almora/Ranikhet/Kausani. The views from Kausani are spectacular too, even if there is no lake.

October should not be too crowded, though it may be chilly.

Jageshwar is also a great place close to Almora. It has an awesome view from Vridda Jageshwar. And you'll have pretty much the whole place to yourself. If you want peace and quiet and some awesome temples, I would go there. There is a Government Rest House there.
