Originally I was introduced to this concept by Natasha Chandra Acharya, but I became a member just a few months back. I used the site to meetup some friendly faces as soon as I reached my new 'home' in Europe and after being more comfortable with the idea decided to host some visitors.
AND then they began arriving, almost every weekend I have been having guests and it has been real fun. Now I have had guests of atleat 8 nationalities from around the world in less than 6 weeks. This week I am expecting an Indian guy from Stockholm !
This has been a great way to meet new people, make freinds, know thier cultures and them, all in the most chilled out fashion (at your home) as well as easy option to stay during travels, though I am yet to use it myself.
Hence, question to you guys, have you stayed with a hospitality club member in India during your travels. Or in any other place in the world? Would you stay with a HC member in India given an option or does the idea itself sound too dodgy for you ?
Their website is http://www.hospitalityclub.org/

Had never heard of it, but, in principle, it seems like a good idea.
And two members here seem to have positive experiences.

I am HC member for more than a year now.have been hosted couple of times - in France, Israel and Iran.
So far it really has been great, met lots of nice people through HC.
Regading India, I'm planning to travel there at the beginning of next year and probably will contact some members as well.
Will address those people though who have experience with hosting there and have some good comments as well.. it appears to me that most of Indian members are guys actually so just to be safe in case I will be going there by myself.
