Hi All

I'm trying to find the quickest way to get to Surat in Gujarat from either Ahmedabad or Delhi but preferably Ahmedabad.

I was thinking that Surat looks big enough on the map to have its own airport but cant find any arlines listing it as a destination so I'm wondering if it is either known by another name or there is an airport close by.

I dont fancy a road trip from Ahmedabad because I'm short of time but if it is the only way then it will have to be!

Any advice welcome!

Cheers
Malc

There is an airport at Surat, but Air Deccan, the only airline to fly to and from Surat, decided to suspend its Surat-Mumbai-Surat flight from July 21 2005, due to poor infrastructure at Surat airport.

Apparently, it is about 3 hours by train from Mumbai, so you may have fly to Mumbai and do the last leg by train.

Or maybe you could fly to Vadodara (Baroda) and get the train from there?

Vadodara will be a good option.  Vadodara-Surat is approx 2 hrs by train. I think there are flights to Vadodara from Delhi and Mumbai.

You are right - Surat is another of those largish cities with no airport.

Its ok, I have been there now, I went by road and back from Ahmedabad.  There is an airport at Surat but no domestic airlines fly there, Deccan used to but they stopped because of the state of the runway and the ground staff, only private jets now so thats how I will get there next time

Thanks for the update. Most of the small airports have become unreliable now a days.
