Hi,

Ok, so its only 25days to my trip to India.  I went to my local bank today to order Indian Rupees to be told sorry, only Indian Nationals are allowed to take I R's into the country.

So, here we go again, more questions for the well travelled and locals

I arrive in Delhi (about 11pm) will there be anywhere to change money at the airport?  (Gatwick- London) is all closed up by that hour ?

Are there many ATM's in Delhi, and more importantly MacLeod Ghanj?  Can I use a maestro/cirrius card? or do I have to use a Master or Visa card?

Should I bring UK £ ?

US $?

or Traveller Cheques (which £ or US $)

Which is prefered?  For the Monk I sponsor should I make an offering to him in ????? which currency, he usually lives in Chango Village, Kinnaur but will be at Sherabling Monastery in HP?

Europe is easy but a bit boring, just Euro's.

Thanks everyone, maybe they'll be a meet up whilst I'm in India, John's one was a bit too far I'm down in East Sussex, where the weather is warmer than Dharamasala.

Thanks Susanj

Hello,

do not worry : you can change money at the airport : It's open 24 hours/day.
And I never noticed long queues.

There is ATM in Mc Leod Ganj, Temple road.

If you plan to go to Shera Ling, Palampur will be on your way and there is also ATM in Palampur.

I always use Visa so  can't answer your question about the other ones.

ATMs are all over now and work with Credit cards from Mastercard and Visa and also with bank debit cards on the Cirrus network!

Take a few travellers cheques/cash as well for emergencies (when the ATM network goes down) take them in British Pounds as your from the UK, There are several places you can buy these online without paying commision here's one of them!! Traveller Cheques

Have alook at my website for some more ideas on money matters!! Gone India money

Hope that helps!!
