The tourist office in Ooty was open and I went in to ask where to get my Residential Permit. I was told that I had to go to the superintendent of police.
On a bright Himalayan morning we lugged our packs up the short path from our guesthouse. Waiting was our little Maruti car, which was to take us on our voyage of discovery in the Kumaon.
