I keep reading this site and forums from time to time as I think it's a very informative source. my compliments to Mr. Suresh Hinduja and the rest of the people here.
My company has a Japanese collaboration and I keep travelling to Japan. My counterpart has been enticing me with his generous offer of taking me to a Fugu Fish restaurant and I am a little nervous for obvious reasons. I mentioned this to my wife who is shocked and will not allow me to even think about it.
I am not gaga about it but at the same time would not like to appear as a non adventurous person to my Japanese partner.
What do you all think?
Best Regards
Delhi Guy
P.S.My wife is going to be reading your responses.

Dear Delhi Guy,
They say to eat Fugu is unwise, to not eat Fugu is also unwise. You are lucky that you have a Japanese host who is going to spend about Rs. 10,000 on a poisonous fish. First of all let me admit that I have not eaten it, but I know a few friends who have. Given the chance I know that I would happily eat it and live to tell the tale. As they say- it is to die for
Your host will take you to a licensed fugu restaurant, he will also eat it with you so I guess it should be okay. The poison is in the organs which are carefully trimmed out. As an additional measure fortify yourself with sufficient sake.
Here is some more information on eating fugu

For Mrs. Delhi Guy- dont worry, he will be safe. Safer than eating Gol Guppas at Bengali Market.

Thank you for your reply, he hasnt come home yet but you have erased my fears and apprehensions. I understand after going through the articles that it is quite commonplace and I know that the Japanese people are very quality conscious.
I take it that you also like the gol guppas at Bengali Market.
Thank you once again and if you are ever in Delhi, please let us know. I will ask him to reply to you also.

Dear Suresh,
I'm back with a sheepish grin on my face. The evening with the fugu went well and there was a moment that I was imagining some 'flush' feeling, but it was probably due to the fact that I knew what I was eating. And some sake.
I cant say that I enjoyed what I ate and it could have been any sahimi but the experience...the trepidation was a bit of a heart stopper. It was like playing russian roulette wher I had removed all the bullets but, what if I had forgotten one?
Thanks for all the support and I am sending you all the stuff you had asked for.
Delhi Guy
Thank you Suresh and do come over.

On a completely unrelated topic, but Suresh, hope you now agree with me that delhi-ites are the most hospitable souls and that is what makes it such a wonderful city to live in.
More on that later in the evening over malt whisky. Please do land up on time.
Slainte,
