When they started they had this Rasmalai ice cream, that was damn good but later on they fell on the line and except a bit more sugar I find no difference between them and the Walls and our own Mother Dairy & Amul.
I am saved as I have Baskin Robbins near my house... and yes the Gianni family who had been vending exotic kulfis is old Delhi have now their sons educated in USA returned home and opening outlets all over Delhi but I am sad that those exotic kulfis like those made from Phalsa(a sweet sour berries) or the one made inside a mango skin are missing.

To my (very pleasant surprise) I saw Phalsa Ice cream at a 'Kwality' Ice Cream store in Iselin (I think), New Jersey last March. It was OK in the sense that I could only barely taste the Phalsa.

I see that they've added Sitaphal (Custardapple) too!
Kwality Ice Cream - Mango, sitafal, saffron pista, sitaphal, Cassata, kulfi, Eggless, Ice Cream cakes, Sugar Free

Before Baskin and movenpick hagen came we were stuck with overbearing Kwality and its later avtar Walls.. then Vadilal came with unique things like Rosomalai ice cream and by the time I started loving them they fell back & joined the main stream. The same thing that happened when the sons of the best Kulfi maker of old Delhi went to US and came back opening stores all over Delhi, mediocracy personified.... the kulfi of the summer stuffed back in to the dasheri mango kin and the phalsa baraf of the monsoon is now just a memory. Long live double sundae....

Actually much of the problem of the traditional icecream walas be it a multi million rs operation, or a mom-n-pop operation, is the lack of consistency. Depending on the continous supply and quality in a systematic and scientific manner was a bane of their survival.

In these times, no one really wants to hear excuses. This is why the chains that churn out average flavors survive. Just because I might like rabdi, does not mean the younger generation does.

Decades ago (70s??) a very famous rabbdiwala in South Delhi, who had lines outside his shop; was busted for mixing blotting paper with his rabbdi - Now the question arose then, were these fans of his fooled ? or was adding blotting paper really enhance flavor and texture ?
