As growing up in jharia , , I remember going to a snack shop run by friend of my father . They served usual mixture of North Indian and gujrati snacks and Bengali sweets . I still remember their samosas and mung dal kachoris . But Coup d'état was their chutneys they serve with their samosas .

2 different ones 1 sweet and other hot . Both were made with washed mung dal . They were the crowd puller and needless to say closely guarded family secret . I have never come upon them anywhere else . Could not find any recipe let alone any mention of it in any cookbooks or blogs on web . I will be ever so grateful to any body who will help me solve this mystery of chutney .

Thank you
Dhawal Raste

There is one Rajasthani guy who sells Samosas and Kachoris near my place in Bangalore. The Chutney he uses is one that's khata made of pudina and meetha made of tamarind.

Something like this, maybe?

We have a Tur dal chutney in Andhra, mostly eaten with rice but I've had it with Idli and Vada too. Delicious with hot plain rice and ghee:

You are welcome Dhawal bhai!

I am to your east in middle GA. smile.png

Yes, I have been to Georgia Halal, the quality is excellent. I have tried a few of their curries, the seekh kabab curry was nice and the paaya too. Previously we used to go to Al Madina but this is more convenient since it's close to Patel Bros., Cherian's and two of our favorite restaurants - Zyka and Luqma.

Chetan, one misconception most people have that the red chutney or a meetha chutney is made of tamarind. It's not actually. It is made of pumpkin.

Sorry, don't know the answer Dhawal is looking for though

I wish I had the recipe! Well, when it comes to food and recipes, there always are surprises at every corner. Some blends that were unimaginable 5 years ago are making their way into the households kitchens.

Introduction: I am 24, from Delhi. Not a food expert but interest in it helps gain some knowledge. And looking forward to expand and share it on the forum

Dhawal, did you?
