Aaloo with Pisa masala

It's every day sabzi cooked in Bihari household . Use of whole spices soaked and made paste in sil Batta gives this curry its rustic taste .

Ingredients

Red potatoes 500 gms
For tempering
Panchforan 1/2 tablespoon
Tej patta /bay leaf 2pcs
Hing according to your taste / 1 pinch
Mustard oil or any cooking oil 3 table spoon
For paste
Coriander seeds. 2 tablespoons
Haldi powder 2 teaspoons
Whole black pepper 1tablespoon
Jeera/cumin seeds 11/2 teaspoons
Whole red chillies 5 pieces
Salt according to taste
Aamchoor powder 1 teaspoon

Method

Soak all masala in water for 15 minutes then make paste using grinder
Wash peel and cut potatoes . If you like you can leave the skin on.
Heat oil in kadhai . If using mustard oil heat it till smoking then take it off heat for 1 minute .
Lower the heat and add hing bay leaf and panchforan . Let it splutter then add potatoes
Sauté potatoes over low heat for few minutes
Increase heat add masala paste and sauté till potatoes are covered . Lower the heat and sauté some more adding little water to avoid burning and sticking
Sauté till oil leaves masala then add water
Cover and cook over medium low heat till potatoes are done .
Add Aamchoor powder stir adjust salt
Crush some potatoes with back of your spoon
Take it off heat
Serve it with hot roties and parboiled govindbhog rice

Enjoy

Pisa means ground . This sabzi use whole masalas soaked and ground on sil Batta (flat grinding stone) . If u can find it , and feel like working , you can substitute haldi powder with whole haldi , it will impart a very distinctive and
Unique flavor without using garam masala, onion and ginger garlic paste
Thank you
