Hyderabadi haleem to get GI tag soon

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad is famous for the Charminar, Salarjung Museum, biryani and IT companies — and the Hyderabadi haleem is now all set to join the vaunted list.

The famous and nutritious dish available here during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan will soon get the Hyderabadi tag akin to Darjeeling tea, Banarasi silk and Tirupati laddoo.

Once the Geographical Indicator (GI) tag is granted, Haleem makers outside Hyderabad will not be able to sell their product as Hyderabadi Haleem and even those within the city can claim the GI tag only if they meet the quality standards.

"We are hopeful of getting the GI tag before the end of this Ramadan as we have qualified for the same," S. Ravi, patent manager and Intellectual Property consultant of Adhikari IP Consultants, said.

Yes Hyderabadi bhai, I read this in today's paper!!! Haleem makers outside Hyderabad may have to shed that word Hyderbadi, but it is quite unlikely to happen.

What about tagging Hyderabadi Biryani, I wonder. Surely, that is even more more unique and famous than Haleem?
